I have talked quite a bit about grass seed over the years. In fact, recently I started making videos to try to better illustrate the need for homeowners to grow it in their lawns. You see, growing grass seed is one of the fundamentals I think all of you should master and it isn’t really that difficult.
If you can learn to grow grass from seed in your lawn, you are going to eliminate, or at least prevent, about 50 percent of the issues your lawn faces each year. Here are three reasons why:
- New Hybrid Grass Seeds. Grass seed, just like any other seed, is being hybridized in order to make it more sturdy and hardy. Grass seed that you buy today has been engineered to withstand pressures from the environment including drought stress, heat, insect and even disease resistance. If you add in new grass cultivars yearly, your lawn will be stronger overall.
- Better Color. Along with engineering a better grass seed comes better lawn color. Let’s face it, the darkest blue-green you can get is the goal and while adding iron is one choice, the pigment of the blades is another. The newer varieties can attain colors from deep blue to emerald green and retain the color longer.
- Softer Yet Thicker Texture. We all like the feeling of soft grass under foot, and newer cultivars are engineered to be soft and plush like shag carpet. The more you grow grass that is soft, the better the feeling will be!
These are just a few reasons why you should learn to grow grass from seed in your home lawn. If you can master this simple, yet important chore, you are sure to be on your way to a beautiful lawn and the envy of the entire neighborhood.
