Answers To Readers Lawn Care Questions

By Allyn Paul, filed under Lawn Tips.

I have gotten a lot of questions lately from you guys about all kinds of issues you are facing in your lawns. While I enjoy the interaction, I have to figure that there are still a bunch of you out there who could benefit from the answers as well; so here you go.

Common Lawn Care Questions

“Is it necessary to aerate my lawn every year?”

The answer is YES! I recommend having your lawn core aerated every single year, especially in the fall. Aeration does so much good for the lawn and it is 100% effective every time because it is mechanical and not chemical. This is a step in the lawn care program that cannot be skipped!

“Do I need to water my lawn during cooler temperatures in Fall?”

This is an interesting question and a good one for sure. When the weather is cooler, the grass is under much less strain and doesn’t really need as much water. But this can be deceiving because we humans tend to think it doesn’t need any water at all and the lawn can dry out quickly. Throw in some cold winds and your lawn will drought out just like it does in the summer. I recommend you water at least once per week in the Fall time unless we are getting regular rains. If you do that, you should be fine.

“Will organics work in the fall time?”

I have taught you guys that organic lawn fertilizers need heat in order to release nutrients and that is true. However, you can still use them in the fall, but you should apply them when you aerate. This will let the nutrients fall directly into the root zone where they can be used up quicker. You may also want to spread some sand on the lawn to help rough up those organic pellets.

Those are just a few questions I get that I think are pretty important. I hope these have helped you guys as well!
